I had no idea that the phrase 'pop your cherry' had anything to do with having sex for the first time. I thought it was some weird kind of foreplay involving cherries.
I was raised in a Catholic home in which my parents both lost their virginities to each other after marriage and consequently thought that losing your virginity was synonymous with getting married.

I used to think that being "sexually active" meant you had gone through puberty and were menstruating and able to have children. When I was 15 I read an article in Cosmogirl that said if you were sexually active you should start seeing a gyno, so I told my mom, "I should see a gyno now since I'm sexually active." That was a fun and briefly awkward conversation while she figured out what I meant.

I used to believe that when you "popped a cherry" an actual cherry popped out.

When I was 8 I was watching T.V. with my mum and a girl laughed when a guy admitted to being a virgin. So I asked my mum "What's a virgin?" to which she replied, rather flustered "A virgin is someone who hasn't hugged the opposite gender". I then told her I wasn't a virgin and went around my primary school telling everyone including the teachers. Thankfully my next door neighbour set me straight.
When I was about 8 or 9 I asked my mom what the word "virgin" meant. Flustered, my mom told me that a virgin was a girl who had never slept with a man. A couple months later, my uncle came to visit, and my parents told me he would have to share a bed with me because we didn't have enough room otherwise. I freaked out because I thought literally sleeping with him would cause me to lose my virginity. My parents had to explain to me just what "sleeping with" someone really meant...

I was probably 7 when I heard the words virgin pina colada. I had always thought that when you drink one of those you became a virgin and couldnt have any kids. I stopped believing that when i was 16. Now Im 20!
When I was younger i used to believe that someone who wasn't married was a virgin, because I went to a Christian school and was taught about Mary and Joseph and how she was pregnant, not married and a virgin. I obviously had no idea what a virgin was but they never told us, so to me that completely made sense. I ended up asking my mom if that was the case when I was about 8, she quickly told me no and changed the subject.

When I was little, the whole "Purity Ring" trend really got popular, where girls would wear a ring to symbolize that they were going to remain virgins until they got married. I used to think that "losing your virginity" meant your ring had fallen off and you misplaced it.

Until I was 12 I used to think that virginity was a religion. I was brought up in a very religious house hold; every Sunday I was in church. I didn't fully understand the title "Virgin Mary". In church they made it sould like it was a miracle that she was a virgin and still had Jesus. I thought that it was because you couldn't have a baby that was a different religion than you, being Jesus was a Jew and Mary was a Virgin... when I was 12 my friend set me straight.
I used to believe that if you were a virgin you had had sex before. So when I learned about 'the virgin Mary' I always thought it was weird that the church would always talk about this woman who openly admitted she'd had sex.

When I was little I was REALLY into unicorns. In mythology it's known that only a virgin can touch a unicorn. I asked my mom what virgin meant and she just explained it as being someone who has never slept with a man. I, of course, took this to mean literally.
For years I thought I wasn't a virgin because when I was even younger I'd crawl into bed with my mom and dad.

I was driving my 5 year old daughter and her friend home from church. They were talking about the word virgin which they heard in the sermon. My daughter said what's a virgin and her friend replied, you know, it's olive oil!
Until I was 8 or 9, I believed that "virgin" meant "young woman" or something. It wasn't before I read something about a guy being a "virgin" that I understood it had to mean something else.

When I was very young I asked my mother what a virgin was. Embarrassed, she told me that a virgin was somebody who hasn't slept with anyone else. I believed that she meant literally sleeping in the same room as someone else.
I was very embarrassed when my class went to camp in 5th grade, and I started yelling that I didn't want to sleep in the dorms because I wanted to stay a virgin.

I used to believe that virgin and vegetarian were the same thing. One day when i was in 4th grade, a 6th grade boy asked me if i was a virgin, well me thinking it was (vegetarian) tells him "no, i like meat."

When i was about 8 i thought being a virgin meant that you had never had a crush at someone. Imagine my friends surprise when i told them i wasn't a virgin.
I used to believe that if you kissed someone on the lips, you'd lose your virginity.

When I first found out about astrological signs and that I was a Virgo (the Virgin), I assumed that everyone born in September could never have sex. I remember worrying that I would never have kids.
