I was a kid during Vietnam and kept hearing about a guerilla war. I had no idea what a guerilla was, and a rough idea of war from tuig-of-war, and the card game War.

Then Planet of the Apes came out. I was petrified.

When young, I used to listen to the news which I thought was boring. I didn't understand some of it especially when the news-reader frequently told us that another army group had been attacked by Gorillas. I imagined actual gorillas (Apes) attacking and could not understand where they all came from. Quite scary.

I used to believe that the Guerrilla fighters in Rhodesia in the 1970’s where real Gorillas. I became very confused when the pictures shown on the TV News always showed black men with guns jumping out of trucks and not Gorillas.

I think I must have watched the “Planet of the Apes” too much on TV.

I used to think that the Nicaraguans had trained gorillas to fight for them since it was always on the news about "guerilla warfare". It was the mid 80's and I was 10 or so. I had nightmares about killer gorillas for months.

I grew up in the '60's during the Vietnam War.
I can remember hearing television new stories about the "gorilla warfare" going on and could just imagine the sight of actual gorillas jumping out of trees onto the soldiers!
