When I was very little and still learning the game of baseball (I am a huge Boston Red Sox fan and always have been), whenever I heard that a team had the "bases loaded", I thought the entire bench was cleared and about 25 players stood all the way around the basepaths. When I first heard "the bases are loaded with Red Sox", I burst out laughing because I was thinking about all these players just standing there!
I used to beleive that the attack line in volleyball was a line some teams used to know where to hit from. I just recentaly reliazed that line is for jumping. ( if you are in front of it but playing back row you cannot jump or you will be called for being out of position)
I used to believe that Sammy Davis Jr. was a baseball player. That belief went down the drain when I saw Wayne's World 2
I used to believe that a pool cue stick was a Q-stick, and that there must be a connection between Q-sticks and Q-tips, perhaps because both were sticks with something white on the end.
My brother used to play rugby and would always score trys. He always looked dissapointed however when he walked off the field as he thougt when the coach tapped him on the back and said "Good try mate" that he hadnt scored and that he would have better luck next time.
I used to think that the Giants only played the Redskins because whenever I asked my dad who was playing, it was the Giants and the Redskins.
There were no such things as practice sessions. Members of any team of any sport just hangs out together and chill. They only play during scheduled competitions.
While on our high school baseball team, we convinced our 10 year old bat boy that the extra catcher's cup/supporter was a "nose guard" that should be worn when he was working around the batter's box. We had some good laughs then forgot about it for a decade until we ran into the young man who was now a star baseball player on his Big 10 college team. Fortunately he had no hard feelings and had "educated" some of his bat boys.
I grew up in South Florida, where the sport Jai Alai is played a lot. When I was in kindergarten, they passed out subscription cards for Highlights for Kids magazine, and I was totally scandalized that they would sign kids up for such a dangerous sport. I told everyone who would listen that Highlights was too dangerous for children.
I used to believe that the Purdue University Boilermakers referred to the cocktail, rather than "people who make boilers."
I used to beleive that when you were playing baseball it would only count of you hit a homer.
I remember when I was younger and saw people wearing sweatshirts from the Superbowl with the number across the shirt in roman numerals, I thought the letters were the size of the shirt. I didn't know what roman numerals were at the time so that made the most sense to me at the time.
When my father and little brother used to watch football on TV, the commentator would often make references to players being in the "penalty box". This was a specific area of the pitch from which penalty shots were taken.
I thought the "penalty box" was a big metal or wooden box that stood at the side of the pitch (near the manager's stand), and that players who'd committed a foul were locked in there until the end of the game. There was a little window so they could watch how their team were doing, but they had to sit in the box and reflect on their actions.
I used to believe that the word "volleyball" was actually "bollyball." And I would get into fights about it with my mom, insisting I was right.
When I was 5 I thought that volley ball was called bolly ball
The Discuss Throw event is actually just frisbee with a classy-professional touch.
I used to believe that Niki Lauda and Claudia Comaneci both where italians
when i was little i thought vollyball was bollyball
I used believe that the football matches we're winning for the team that scored the last goal
I used to believe that the 2nd serve in tennis was slower than the 1st because you were still knackered from putting all your energy into the 1st!
