When I was little, we used to take car trips a lot, and from time to time we got a flat tire. From watching my dad change flats, I believed that the hubcap was what held the tires on the car, and if you didn't put it back on, your tires would all fall off. I figured that's why there were all those places along the road with hubcaps for sale - in case you lost one.
I used to be terrified of the hook that you can hang your clothes on in the backseat of the car. I thought the screw in the middle was it's eye and the hook was it's finger. I always had to sit in the middle.
I used to think that i could make our car move faster by wishing for it and pushing the seat
really hard with both my hands and feet in front of me.i never believed my ma who told me
my dad was driving faster to make me happy,i thought she doing it just to make me stop,
well ,that too i guess!!
I used to think that cars couldn't be painted purple or pink, proably because I rarely saw cars of that color on the road.
When I was very young, maybe two or three, my mum was dropping my brother off at school. I came along and rode in the car. My mum was then going to drive home, but I wanted to go somewhere else, like the shops. But my mum didn't want to go there. So while I was sitting in the car, I tied pushing back against the seat - I thought I'd be strong enough to make the car change direction and go to the shops.
I thought that limousines were bendable and could curve around turns. I got this idea from a cartoon.
As a child, I too thought that "don't drink and drive" applied to ALL drinks. I would freak out if the person driving took so much as a tiny sip of water.
I used to think that if a driver of a car set their temperature setting to hot, and the passenger set theirs to cold, that a tiny tornado would form in the car and kill them, because one time I asked my parents how tornadoes were formed and they told me: When hot air hits cold air.
I used to (when I was about 9 or 10) think that license plate numbers were talking in code to me. So I would memorize license plate numbers and thought they were speaking to me.
my grandma used to tell me duck when we were going under a bridge so we wouldnt hit our heads.
When I was about seven, I saw a person turn left while they had their right-turn signal on.
I thought that's how it worked for a long time!
My parents told me that the cats' eyes in hte middle of the road were lit up by a man with a torch running along underground in front of the car.
I didn't believe this 100% but I thought that when you travel by car the roads moved and the car stayed still. I only ever thought this on long trips (on a highway, when the road doesn't split up as much as in town). The thought never occured to me whenever I was being driven in town.
I was about 3 or 4. Then I realised three things that disproved my theory:
1. It would get confusing when you have to turn off one road and onto another (the road would have to change directions)
2. I was standing outside and saw many cars move along the road
3. How did the road manage to move in two directions at the same time whenever there was oncoming traffic?
As Isaid, I didn't 100% believe this myself, it just made me feel better knowing there was an explanation for how the car moved :)
When I was younger and we used to travel with the windows down I thought the sounds the tires make on the ground was because the tires were new. I also thought that if you ran over the reflectors that were sometimes embedded in the ground on highways you would cut you tires.
i used to stand behind the car exhaust when i was little because the fumes were so warm in winter. my dad told me if i let the gas touch me i would get warts all over my legs. i still stay away from exhausts.
When I was little I asked my mother what the little bumps (the reflectors) in the middle of the road were for, she replied that it was there so blind people knew they were in their lane.
When I was little, my mom used to put the radio on 'scan' and said that the only way to change the channels was to touch different areas in the car (seats, cieling of car, floor, console, etc.)! I believed her until I was like 11!
Once when i was small my father, who was always an angry driver made a sharp wrong turn which made a hub cap fall off -he yelled " oh s**t, now i've dropped a real clanger " till i as about 18 i thought hub caps were called clangers
From when i was about 4-13 (and still today i kinda do this) i used to play in the front yard or backyard and that when the cars passed and they saw you the ppl in them would come and get you! So everytime i saw a car or heard one coming while i was out there i would ruuuun as fast as i could either in the garage or to the door or at least to the other side of the house. Everyonce in a while i get that feeling again and i take off running.
teehee...
I used to believe that new cars were built right at the dealerships before being put out for show on the lot.
