Car signals tell you where to drive

I used to believe that when my mother was driving, the car would tell her which direction to go, with the blinking arrow (the turn signal)...I never noticed that she'd turn the signal on.

I used to believe that my Dad's car knew exactly where our destination was and it told my Dad where to turn by signalling him with blinking green arrows on the dash.
