Why can't I find my belief?

It may not have been approved yet. All beliefs are read before they appear on the site and sometimes we get snowed under with new submissions. Please be patient!

It might have been moved to a different category than the one you submitted it in. Try searching for your name or keywords from the belief in the search box at the top of the page.

It may have been deleted because it wasn't considered appropriate (see below). If you think this was unfair please have another go.

What isn't considered appropriate?

Please don't take personal offence if your belief doesn't make it onto iusedtobelieve.com. We consider every single submission and only delete beliefs which don't meet the criteria for being on the site. We're only human too, so we might just have misunderstood or made a mistake!

We won't approve anything which is extremely garbled, unnecessarily offensive or extremely distasteful.

This site is a collection of ideas that people used to believe were true, not childhood anecdotes or embarrassing stories (however amusing they are!) Make sure your submissions are phrased as beliefs so there isn't any confusion.

This site is not a forum either, so we won't approve submissions containing websites or email addresses.

Why are there so many spelling and grammar mistakes?

Incomprehensible or extremely garbled beliefs, including extreme use of txtspeak or l33t, are deleted. However, those that are approved are not edited before they appear on the site. Legibility makes the beliefs much more enjoyable to read and we encourage it by giving a high initial score, but we don't censor beliefs for bad spelling or grammar.

Why are there beliefs about things that are true?

You may occasionally come across correct beliefs which people have come to disbelieve. We find this amusing.
